Today my daughter is in her first commercial. She is following a long line of low budget, locally produced and aired commercial success. Maybe she will be the next Dakota Fanning? probably not but its fun for her and fun for us to watch her in something.

Battle Lake Minnesota is a small resort town nestled in between a couple of lakes with a population of around 800 people. There is another dozen lakes within a five mile radius of the town. The name comes from the many Indian battles between the Sioux and Chippewa tribes in the late 1700's and early 1800's. According to Wikipedia

"Battle Lake was originally built on an ancient Indian burial ground, where many battles between the Sioux and the Chippewa tribes took place. Movies such as Pet Sematary and Scream were based on the town's unfortunate history with death."

Chief Wenonga is the statue that greets people in and out of town. Despite all of the references to the rich native American history the town has, i have never once seen one a single Indian there.

I have gotten tickets for this years 10,000 lakes music festival (10KLF). Its a great venue and this years lineup has a few bands i really like. this festival has been labeled locally for only 'hippies'. most of the people in there area look down at the festival because of the influx of pot smokers it brings out. these same people have no problem supporting the country music festival (WE Fest) held in the same location. I have been to both and i don't fit in with either crowd. I can tell you that i have seen a lot of public pot smoking in one and a lot of drunken fighting in the other so you can take your pick of which is more offensive. if anyone has any interest at all and, like me, is a big fan of good live music 10klf is my choice.

Monday night i went to Moorhead and helped sandbag for about 5 hours. it was in a driving rain and 40 degrees, but i was happy to help the community i grew up in.

Tuesday night i either had the flu or food poshing (i cant tell the difference). I haven't been that sick in years. I prayed to God, Allah, Buddha and any other deity i could think of. i am better today but still not back to normal.

Vegas was good. i got there Thursday night after an insanely busy and stressful day. between connecting flights i would be walking through someone on very complex network configurations. we had servers down and sites down. i also was in the initial phases of a head cold. to say the least my flight there sucked.

I meet my friend Chuck there. we both arrived at about 7 PM, local time. by the time we got back to the hotel and checked in...etc it was about 9 and i was tired and not feeling good. but we went out anyways. we went to Planet Hollywood. they have a very cool bar and casino. they even had Go-go dancers above the card tables. we had a few drinks and caught up. one of the managers gave a free pass into the night club they have there. very trendy and hip place, not really what i wanted or expected to go to my first night, but we went anyways. this place was very posh but also very expensive. we had each a shot and a drink which cost us $60. didn't hang out their to late but did get a nice buzz and spent a shit ton of money in a short amount of time.

Friday i wake up way to early because of the 2 hr time change. i was very very tired that morning and was feeling even worse than the day before. we bummed around the strip on and off most of the day. that night Chuck's dad meet up with us and took us to a very good steak place then to a comedy club. despite my not feeling to good, i still had a ton of fun at the comedy club.

Saturday, i finally woke up feeling good. we started are day off early and i knew it was going to be good day by how nice the sun was shining. we had a kick ass meal at the Paris. that night we found our way to the 'Old Vegas'. now had i known about were this was at initially i don't think i would have spent any time on the strip. this was the Vegas i was hoping for. we had a kick ass time there. i also went to one of the coolest bars i have ever been to called the Griffin.

that is the short of it and was a pretty good 'G' rated version of my Las Vegas trip.

so last night i get a car wash before i leave town. after the car wash i meet a couple of coworkers for a quick sandwich. i go back out to my car and now my door latch is frozen and cant close my door. After 30 mins of fighting with it i drive, hanging on for dear life to my door to keep it partially closed, to the gas station. the whole while my inside light is constantly going on and off. i spend another 30 mins trying to unstick the door mechanism with some deicer stuff i got at the store, which doesn't work. so i finally buy some bungee cords and bungee myself in and drive the hour home. about half way home i hear the latch finally snap into place. what a waste of my night.

Moody is right. i called him at a late hour and tried to talk to him for no reason other than i was a bit drunk and chatty. i was up to late and was a few hours late today coming into work.

i have been getting shit all day about it here. Our boss (the owner) had the exec team all together talking about some initiatives he wanted to see in place to improve our business process. He singled out myself and another gal who also has just started here and mentioned that we probably don't have a lot of input because we are so new and that we didn't even know where the punch bowl was yet. well someone pipes up and says "i think mike knows where the punch bowl is".

I am excited for the start of the NBA. i am not a huge fan of NBA as a whole but i am of the timberwolves. basketball is fast past, high energy and there is a lot of games. so on random week nights i can watch half of a game not get to involved and go to bed. this gives me something to do instead of household chores.

It's something i have always thought about and kept in the back of my mind. It is positioning yourself, if need be, to be self sufficient. By this i mean, what would you do if our economy totally collapsed ? How would you feed your family, heat your house....etc?

I currently heat with three different types of sources. Electric, propane, and wood. i try to use wood as much as possible and as much foraged dead fall as i can find. It is a little easier since i live in the country to use wood as a major heat source.

A plan i have is, every pay check i will buy one thing that contributes to our ability to self sustain. By this i mean a buying an item such as an extra box of ammo, large bags of rice, dry beans or nonperishable items to stick in a tub for that raining day.

Now hopefully these small steps in being more prepared is never used. But if we go through another great depresion we will be a little better off than most.

He was like the exorcist. thankfully i had just walked into the kitchen. but it went everywhere. since it was mostly milk it had some spray to it. the worst was i was in shorts and no socks, and the mass amounts that hit my feet had some food mixed in that was stuck between my toes.

Well we had a great weekend, maybe the only exception was that Friday night i had a migraine. Saturday i took the kids to the petting zoo where Lily fed a sheep and a goat out of her hand and then went for a ride on a horse. for lunch we went to a restaurant where both kids displayed exactly how tired they were. I even snuck out to my garage to work for an hour and listen to my 8 tracks. hahahaha

So everyone has heard that Moody is romantically involved with a lovely gal. they are smitten with each other. If you asked me i think someday the will get married, and we couldnt be happier for the two love birds.

Moody says some of her greatest traits are she is a good listener and has a good ear for music. He then went on to add, that what sets Moodess apart from all the others is her ability to be unique.

Also their is a correction that needs to be made about the picture from my previous blog. It is actually an Amish friend of mine named Helmuth Klopfenstein. I initially tried to hide his identity by stating it was someone else. Since Amish dont have computers and spend their time making wicker baskets (that they sell at DQ in Staples MN) and furniture, i am pretty sure Helmuth will never know of his Internet fame.

A side note about Helmuth, he is happily married to the love of his life Smuker the two meet at a family reunion/barn raising. they have two kids named Plank and Hersberger.

Well well well. its another great night at the lake and i am about to crawl into bed. i went for a played a little basketball and then went for a quick dip into the lake. i say every morning that i will go to bed early but never do. tomorrow i plan on being very productive at work. :)

I think i am become more antisocial at work. i have been to busy to engage in the idle chat that goes on around the office. and i sense that i am out of the loop into which faction of woman aren't talking to others for petty reason this week. I found that this is the normal progression when middle age females work together, the cant coexist, the must find new and innovative was to back stab and bitch about each other. Ultimately i find that woman are more to blame for the inequality of woman leadership in the work place. It boils down to woman, in general, hate to be bossed around by another woman. although i would be lying if i didn't say a part of me likes to hear the complete nonsense they come up with to complain about each other. I usually just encourage them.

Well as Moody alluded too, we were on the verge of a full blown bar brawl. good for the city of Vegas it didn't happen. we were minding our own business but some people were picking a fight with the quietest guy at our table. his brother inlaw is one of my closets friends. he eventually had enough of it and, is a bit of a tough guy, so he walks over and smacks the guy so hard he flies out of his chair which in turn that guys friend tackles my friend which in turn our whole table jumps up and runs over and add to it. bar tenders, bouncer and local patrons all jump in right away to prevent an old school all out bar fight. Pretty much all of us at our table are from Moorhead. we all grew up on the North side, which is the working class side of town, and is very racially diverse. every single one of us has been in a ton of fights. We very rarely start them any more but dont have a problem finishing them. its to bad Moody spent the 10 min. melee in the bathroom. no one was hurt and no one went to jail so no harm no foul in my book.

Well this was my hell week at work. i had soooooo much to do. and in the middle of the week while in the midst of working my ass off and overextending myself i managed to crash everything in the building. Computers, phones, our Radio system, and servers. basically everything that is important enough to be on our backup power.

while installing all these new servers, i overloaded one of the phases on the UPS and Wham!.....silence..

working for a power company that needs contact with their customers and with their crews at all time, this was a very untimely mistake.

thankfully i was able to find a bypass switch and reroute past the UPS and get everything back online. and even more thankful nothing major broke.

I actually had no idea our UPS had three separate phases and never knew the electricians put everything in the server room on one phase (very idiotic). so now i have had electricians in to move breakers around to hopefully do a more even job of load balancing.

Moving over the Domain controller/file and print server, i thought was going to be the stressful part of my week but i guess not.

Well there has been something really bothering me since yesterday. my closest friend has a child hood friend that i know pretty well. i wouldn't considering this guy a close friend but we know each other and are just good acquaintances.

He has a 4 year old girl who is a special needs kid. and since she was born, do to the extra care she needs, he changed is life to take care of her. He quit working to be her care provider full time. it hadn't been easy but put in a challenging position people can rise to the occasion. this winter i had ran into him and he had talked about his daughter having had to be in the hospital quite a bit this winter from pneumonia and infections. well the stress had finally taken a toll on his marriage and he was in the process of getting a divorce. he was still staying home with his daughter and would find away to manage. well Wednesday she passed away very unexpectedly.

In the last 4 years had never once complained about how hard it was to take care of her and had never curse the fact she was born with complications. he never looked at it as anything other than a blessing for being giving such a beautiful daughter. he loved her and was grateful for her.

Now he is absolutely and utterly devastated. there isn't anything worse that could have happened to him and is, obviously, taking this hard. as her life slowly slipped away from her, his has come to a screeching halt and will be never be the same.

i was crushed to hear this news and from the bottom of my heart my thoughts and prayers will go out to him. He is a good guy who became a great dad.

well another week down. i am sleepy but not tired. i almost wish it was Thursday so i could get one more day of work done before the weekend. i would enjoy my time off more if i knew i didn't have so much work looming over my head. but nothing a Sapphire and Tonic wont cure. i talked to Moody today and in fact he didn't go to work again (seems to be taking Mondays and Fridays 0ff). he didn't have a migraine or and illness but couldn't stand to miss the save by the bell marathon on TV. i never got into the show myself but we all have our vices. most of mine unfortunately are illegal or unethical, and if i had my way save by the bell reruns would also be illegal.

i was editing, my poorly written post from earlier, and looking at some photos and came across a few from my 30th bday party last fall. the most noted feature is my 3 weeks of not shaving. Moody looks happy, my mom doesn't. and as always my jack ass friends were up for a good time. How the fuck is it that Osama Bin Laden is still walking around after all this time? Our Congress has the disposal of our military and our intelligence agencies but instead of directing them towards that effort, they have been tackling a much great threat. They have been going to all lengths to nab some harden criminals, guilty of the most unthinkable things, true terrorists. To their belts they can notch such heinous criminals such as Martha Stewart, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. Congress should feel a real sense of pride. All this time Bin Laden is walking around with his dialysis machine at some Pakistani strip mall.

Today is the big day of our annual meeting at work. We are a Electrical Cooperative, so for all 26,000 members who get service from us, this is their day to vote in new directors, see how the financials are...etc. we will have voter registrations and a PowerPoint (both of which i am responsible for) that our CEO, CFO and some speakers from our power suppler will be going over. its a very big deal around here. i was having some trouble the last few days getting the Database stuff taken care of. but its almost all ready and i will head over there in an hour and go over it again. should be a late night, but that is why i get paid the big bucks. i kind of wish i was semi stranded in my country home in Belize reading books and blogging. but i will deal with the hand that has been dealt to me.

Sunday was fantastic out. i spent the entire day out in the yard or in the lake with the family. needless to say i got a little sun burnt but not to bad. Saturday i filled up the boat and stop putting gas in at $101.02. i am not sure how much gas fits in the boat but i wasn't going to put anymore in. but after driving it for the better part of two days though i still have almost a full tank.

Well i am going to go and help moody move into his new house. and then we will go and meet up with the old crew and drink all night. (he doesnt know about the drinking all night part yet) have a good weekend. and i hope gets a little rowdy this weekend.

Well i had a migraine yesterday and went home early. today its much better but i am a little drained from it. this weekend i am helping Moody move into his new place. should be fun.

Well, its Monday again. i have been super busy like always and now i am starting to fade. i have been very tired lately, i am wonder if maybe i have mono. I am not sure what mono really is but people say you are tired a lot. or i guess its the small amounts of sleep i get a night that has probably the most to do with it.

Good morning everyone. yesterday i spent half of the day racking leaves for old people. i volunteer for a couple of civic service functions every year. it was 75 out and a perfect day to be outside. i hope everyone has a good weekend.

Since Saturday i have been working on the mother load of all swingsets/playset. it is about 90% done. it is treated lumber so i will have to wait a couple of months to let it dry out a bit before i stain it. last night i assemble the twirly slide. that was the biggest pain in the ass. it took me until 9:30 last night to finish it, but my daughter went down it about ten times this morning before daycare. i will have to post a few pics of this thing over the next couple of days.

Inspired by Moody's willingness to run the Fargo's 5k i have decided to run it also. i haven't run that far in a while but it doesn't take me too long to get into somewhat good shape. so it will be fat man running until then.

My days at work are even crazier than before. the guy who worked for me quit last Wednesday. he was in some trouble here at work and decided to quit on his own terms rather than to be fired eventually. i think it will be better down the road but for the next couple of months i will be working to much. the up side to this is i have worked here for two years managing the technology so now maybe i can bargain for some more vacation or at least my own stapler, either way I'll be happy.

We finally had nice weather for the weekend. it was a ton of fun hanging outside and enjoy MN instead of stewing inside over how crappy it is. Its amazing how much your mood changes when you can go out and enjoy the sunshine.
