I am sorry about my week hiatus from blogging. I was on vacation for a few days and have been really struggling to catch up at work.

My next stop on this MN world wind tour is Vergas MN. Like many other MN towns, this town has a significant Scandinavian descent. This has been traditionally a Swedish community. They have chosen to show their unique and rich heritage by putting a giant Loon on the edge of town (surprise! another oversize bird). Vergas is a very small town that is bookend with two lakes. One is called Loon lake and the other is called Long lake. Guess which one has the loon statue? anybody??? You guessed it, its Long Lake. Apparently it makes perfect sense to Scandinavians.

My second installment in "Small MN town, big useless statue" is Rothsay MN. Rothsay is a small prairie town on the western portion of MN. this is where the woods stop and the prairie begins. It only has a population of 226 but it makes up for its lack of size with the worlds largest prairie chicken. Nothing says "Bad Ass" like a big fucking prairie chicken.

Today at work I have volunteered to do river clean up on the Pelican River (notice the 1970's post card from there). You can either go down the river in a kayak or walk along the edge picking up trash. i selected kayaking. in fact i have no idea why someone would want to walk the 2+miles in wild overgrown growth of a river.

So its raining again. Has global warming finally changed our climate patterns? This has been a lot like Seattle with the steady and constant rain everyday but probably more like Florida with the warm mugginess.

I should have rode my motorcycle in to work today. its really turning out to be a nice day. for a change we don't have a torrential downpour or 30 mph winds. I am damn ready for summer to start. we already don't get much of one and now we are being robbed of it with all of this crappy weather.
